The DVLA’s September auction generated a combined sale value of £68,324 on four private number plates. Private plates often catch the eye of enthusiasts, with the highest prices commanded by those that include recognizable words, phrases or references.
H80 RSE was popular, managing to stirrup a final price of £17,644, despite initially being valued at an estimate of £200. It’s extremely likely the proud new owner is an equestrian enthusiast.
MAF 7IA came in at £16,788. With its resemblance to MAFIA, we’d imagine the new owner is probably not the local ice-cream man.
For Ferrari fans out there, P15 STA brought in £17,396. The plate appearing to read ‘Pista’ references the Italian brand’s iconic 488 Pista Supercar.
The fourth; 533 YAA reached a final price of £16,506, taking the total to £68,324 and meaning the 4 registrations achieved almost 72 times their combined starting prices!
2000 plates were auctioned in the first week of September, with 1980 finding proud new owners, generating £6.76 million in total.
Mark Trimbee, CEO of Regtransfers said: “A 99 per cent sell-through rate is a strong result by any measure, and £6.76 million from a single sale shows there’s real depth of demand in this market right now, not just at the very top end. For anyone sitting on a registration and wondering whether now is a good time to sell, results like this are a fairly clear signal.”
